Art with Africa is a recently established initiative between NCAD and two projects in Nairobi, Kenya – The Baba Dogo Youth Project and Repha Opundi’s school. The college initially set up links with these groups during a research trip to the World Social Forum in Kenya in 2007.
The group consists of studying and teaching artists with the aim of developing a relationship with the youth of Kenya through artistic collaboration. Although food, medicine and financial aid is an important ongoing struggle in the area, the objective of the group is to seek ways to allow these children and teenagers to harness and nurture their creativity as we believe that art can be critical in their development and raising peoples awareness of the situations facing them and activate change. |
