BABA DOGO YOUTHS PROJECT

BABA DOGO YOUTHS PROJECT, Kasarani Division, Nairobi, Kenya
Baba Dogo is a highly residential area located 15 km from Nairobi city where the inhabitants live on less than €1 a day.
Baba Dogo Youths Project aims to combat the diverse challenges that face the younger members of the population growing up in this area by providing training in skill based art practice. The Kids learn screen printing, curio- making, wall painting, carving and drawing as well as the manufacture of professional footballs, all of which can provide the youth of Baba Dogo with income and job opportunities. There are both adult and youth education classes, with early childhood educational programs on offer too.
The benefit of Baba Dogo Youth Project lies not only in the skills and education they impart to the youth of the area – the Project provides a safe and positive environment, as well as counseling, for the youth and children growing up in the area where youth criminality and substance abuse is extremely high.
The NCAD African Awareness fundraising has forwarded on several thousand Euro to Babo Dogo Youth Project in the past few years which has contributed substantially to maintaining and also improving the Project. Their most recent improvement to the Project was the creation of an internet café which has enabled access with the wider community.
